Since 7.5 firmware, we can now have DataPower virtual appliance running as an application in a Linux server (i.e Ubuntu or RHEL). The installation is pretty straightforward, I was able to set it up within an hour using my laptop with only 4GB RAM. It uses less resources than a DataPower VMware.

  1. download the deployment package from PassportAdvantage (i.e. IBM_DataPower_Gateway_7.5.2.0_Ubuntu.zip)
  2. copy the 2 packages to Ubuntu
  3. dpkg -i idg7520.common_amd64.deb idg_linux_7520.image_amd64.deb
  4. telnet 2200 to access dp serial console for initial configuration and enable web-mgmt
  5. Login to webGUI to accept license
